Sunderland vs Ipswich Town [League One]

1 Name: 606 2021-11-20 15:41
Sunderland vs Ipswich Town [GMT 15:00]

The Black Cats have had three long weeks to wait since their 3-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday the last time they were in League One actions, with the FA Cup defeat to Mansfield and Tuesday's Papa John's Trophy game with Bradford the only matches since.

Head coach Lee Johnson is determined to put Sunderland's recent poor form behind them against Paul Cook's side today, as they try to close the gap to the league leaders.

The Wearsiders have games in hand, but need to start winning games, with the scrutiny firmly on their form.

Lee Johnson made three changes to the side that started Sunderland's last league game, the defeat at Sheffield Wednesday two-and-a-half weeks ago.

Nathan Broadhead came into the Black Cats' starting XI in place of Aiden O'Brien, while Bailey Wright was preferred to Tom Flanagan in central defence.

The third change saw Johnson bring Elliot Embleton into the side in place of Dennis Cirkin, who was left out of the matchday squad altogether.

With Cirkin absent, Luke O'Nien moved to left-back to fill the gap.

Aiden McGeady recovered from injury to take a place on the bench, and young goalkeeper Anthony Patterson was also included amongst the subs after being recalled from his loan spell at Notts County this week following an injury to Lee Burge.

Ipswich boss Paul Cook made one change to his side's last league line-up, which ground out a goalless draw against Oxford United last weekend.

Sone Aluko replaced Wes Burns in the starting XI.

Former Sunderland manager Peter Reid was also back at the Stadium of Light, having recently taken up a consultancy role with the Tractor Boys.

Lads I'm starting to think the problem at Sunderland might not be the manager and might actually be all the shit players they've got.

Are you suggesting selling your best players and replacing them with lorn shitters who got relegated from the Bundesliga isn't a viable transfer strategy?

it was intentional
59 Name: Anonymous 2021-11-20 16:39
>>56
when does the winter window start so we can sign someone who might make a miracle happen
The problem is with that, Newcastle will only be able to sign players with clauses which essentially benefit them getting relegated. The players hold all the cards there really.
60 Name: Anonymous 2021-11-20 16:39
>>56
Eddie Howe is a magnet for shit players. There's no hope for you.
61 Name: NUFC 2021-11-20 16:40
>>59
Thats why I added "miracle" because thats the only thing that can save them at this point. they are fucked right now.

>>55
>>53
>>51
but what I am saying the reason it got so big over here is that we had like a major holiday where everyone was off and could buy shit with great deals.
62 Name: Anonymous 2021-11-20 16:41
>>61
Honestly being relegated isn't that bad seeing as it happened in recent years, they can properly plan for a future then. I can't see Newcastle escaping it now.

71 Name: Anonymous 2021-11-20 16:44
Not 100% certain about this but I'm sure the last time Joelinton scored, Steve Bruce was off (his mum died or something)
To get Joelinton to score, the manager must not be there

honestly if they had waited till the end of the season to buy the team and Newcastle had gone down they probably would have got a better deal,
I expect the owners will have plans in place that included a stay in the Championship, remember that when City got their money they weren't built in a season it took a few years to get things right,
