I was just watching a cooking show the other day by an American that has his own BBQ show. The episode I watched was a whole show were he put his twist on Italian-style grilling, as he was invited to Italy to do grilling shows there and did a bunch of shows in Italy with local Italian grillers

Well, he had one of his Italian grill buddies ask on camera from Italy: "Whats the difference between American grilling (BBQ) and Italian grilling?"

And he said in Italy, what they do is they buy the best ingredients and then keep it really simple without adding much of anything like salts, sugars, etc

While here in the US, one big difference is that we love to marinade, use BBQ sauces, and so on to make a really rich flavor

But by doing that you're adding in a lot of salt, sugar etc that the Italians are not doing, and you can see there way is the healthy way

While California and Hawaii-style are both healthy forms like they do in Italy...

The four most famous types of regional BBQ here in the US are

Texas style

I'm Italian but I literally fell in love with UK cuisine.
Shepherd's pies, Gala pies, scotch eggs, Haggis, Sunday roast with yorkshire pudding, beef and ale pies, it's great really.

Their only issue is that in recent years they fell for the "salt is bad" meme and they also boil their meat, if you apply some basic cooking expertise to their dishes they're delicious.

I'm not talking about the shitty ready-made pies from Tesco, I'm talking about making your own or eating them at good restaurants. It's not processed food, there's few but good ingredients and nutritionally speaking it's better than pasta frankly.

I still prefer a well made Amatriciana of course, but real English food is underrated because of the horrible way they cook it. If they took the time to actually apply the basics of cuisine to it people would realize it is not that bad.

For fuck sake hipsters began to love failipino food which is literally broths with fish oil that tastes like feet shoved in it, just because of vloggers.

I enjoy both to be honest.
I still think food in Italy is better cooked(as I said, English undersalt and boil their meat) but some recipes of theirs are really good. For example, in Italy we have really good meat and we know how to cook it, but it's hard to find something like a Wellington Fillet with truffle and mushroom cream inside, that thing is genius.

Our fish dishes are 1000x times better than theirs though, but I blame it on our fishes being naturally tastier than theirs. I will also never get putting cream on mussels, that is a war crime to me.

With my low-income buddy who likes the poor-man type food, he's a cook with 20 years experience, he's a great cook, makes everything from scratch, had a good understand of flavor profiles and is pretty creative putting his own twist on stuff and making new stuff

But all his dishes are that poor-man style stuff you like that will never impress a girl. One of the best reasons I recommend you guys get into cooking is because you can knock a girls socks off if you get good at it. Plus, cooking for yourself is much healthier. Another reason Italy is healthier than most countries is because they have such a strong culinary tradition that many more people there are into cooking for themselves

My parents couldn't good for shit either, so I feel your pain. But your really should make some friends friends in Italy and study Italian cuisine if you want actual good food. Even Holland and Germany has some great stuff that will improve your life drastically if you learn those dishes

As for Asian food tho, all of that stuff is great for the most part: Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese, Japaneses, etc. I'm sure you have all those places in your neighborhood just like everyone else I know does, that stuff is great
