Sunderland vs Accrington Stanley [League One]

Sunderland vs Accrington Stanley [15:00 BST]

It's been an April to forget for the Black Cats, with only one win so far this month, way back against Oxford three weeks ago.

However, Lee Johnson's side can secure a place in the end-of-season play-offs today with a win, and if other results go their way.

Plus there's still the matter of maintaining the pressure on second-placed Peterborough United following their defeat to Gillingham on Tuesday.

Johnson could tweak his side again today following the midweek draw at leaders Hull.

Sunderland vs Accrington Stanley team news: Aiden McGeady starts

Lee Johnson made three changes to the side that started the midweek draw at leaders Hull City.

Aiden McGeady returned to the Black Cats line-up after missing out on Tuesday due to a badly bruised foot, and he replaced Jordan Jones.

Aiden O'Brien came in for Grant Leadbitter, and Denver Hume replaced Callum McFadzean at left-back.

Johnson reverted to his preferred 4-2-3-1 formation, with Josh Scowen and Carl Winchester playing in front of the back four, and with Lynden Gooch and McGeady either side of O'Brien in the three, with Charlie Wyke leading the line.

Accrington Stanley XI: Savin, Rodgers, Nottingham, Barclay, Burgess, Coneely, Butcher, McConville, Phillips, Bishop, Charles

Subs: Smyth, Russell, Buckley, Uwakwe, Perritt, Mansell, Morgan

SAFC XI: Burge, Power, Wright, O'Nien, Hume, Scowen, Winchester, Gooch, McGeady, O'Brien, Wyke

Subs: Matthews, Maguire, Diamond, Leadbitter, McFadzean, Jones, Stewart

Whats with the hate of derby?
Don’t get the Derby hate.
Is it mainly forest fans or people who want to see Rooney fail?
19 Name: Anonymous 2021-04-24 14:51
Why yes, I am going to pay to endure another 90 minutes of blunderland failing to score.

There are a few very frequent Forest posters on this board tbf, but it's probably more a combination of the latter and anons wanting to see a bigger Championship club go down

Derby fan here, I'd genuinely enjoy a season in league one on the assumption we come straight back up. Some good away days.
We're more likely to do a Pompey or Plymouth if we go down however

I believe the hate was directed more to the owner than the club. And then it turned to mockery when he spent millions and still failed to get promoted.

gotta ask /sunderland/ because it's been a busy week

what would your punishment be for the big 6 for trying to harm english football over the last week? after project big picture failed, do you think they'll just keep trying to hurt english football until the greedy owners get more money? how do you punish them so they stop trying?

Would the owners care if the teams are docked points? No, they’d probably double down on this super league idea to guarantee big income.
The obvious answer is 50+1 rule.

I was just going to post this earlier: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2021/04/23/rick-parry-super-league-collapse-means-project-big-picture-should/

"We want to input the best of Big Picture to the Premier League strategic review and we'll import it to the Government's review," Parry said. "It's very simple - we (the EFL) want 25 per cent of the total TV revenue, we want an end to parachute payments, we want a narrowing of the cliff edge between the Championship and the Premier League, because our watchword, our entire focus, is on sustainability."

Parry is a fucking clown.

Would be great to see these, really hope 50+1 happens and that you keep pushing it to happen. I've heard any punishments will be targeted at the owners so we'll see what happens but I hope the end result is the lower leagues get a big payday.
