Sunderland vs Accrington Stanley [League One]

Sunderland vs Accrington Stanley [15:00 BST]

It's been an April to forget for the Black Cats, with only one win so far this month, way back against Oxford three weeks ago.

However, Lee Johnson's side can secure a place in the end-of-season play-offs today with a win, and if other results go their way.

Plus there's still the matter of maintaining the pressure on second-placed Peterborough United following their defeat to Gillingham on Tuesday.

Johnson could tweak his side again today following the midweek draw at leaders Hull.

Sunderland vs Accrington Stanley team news: Aiden McGeady starts

Lee Johnson made three changes to the side that started the midweek draw at leaders Hull City.

Aiden McGeady returned to the Black Cats line-up after missing out on Tuesday due to a badly bruised foot, and he replaced Jordan Jones.

Aiden O'Brien came in for Grant Leadbitter, and Denver Hume replaced Callum McFadzean at left-back.

Johnson reverted to his preferred 4-2-3-1 formation, with Josh Scowen and Carl Winchester playing in front of the back four, and with Lynden Gooch and McGeady either side of O'Brien in the three, with Charlie Wyke leading the line.

Accrington Stanley XI: Savin, Rodgers, Nottingham, Barclay, Burgess, Coneely, Butcher, McConville, Phillips, Bishop, Charles

Subs: Smyth, Russell, Buckley, Uwakwe, Perritt, Mansell, Morgan

SAFC XI: Burge, Power, Wright, O'Nien, Hume, Scowen, Winchester, Gooch, McGeady, O'Brien, Wyke

Subs: Matthews, Maguire, Diamond, Leadbitter, McFadzean, Jones, Stewart

Whats with the hate of derby?
Don’t get the Derby hate.
Is it mainly forest fans or people who want to see Rooney fail?
19 Name: Anonymous 2021-04-24 14:51

There are a few very frequent Forest posters on this board tbf, but it's probably more a combination of the latter and anons wanting to see a bigger Championship club go down

gotta ask /sunderland/ because it's been a busy week

what would your punishment be for the big 6 for trying to harm english football over the last week? after project big picture failed, do you think they'll just keep trying to hurt english football until the greedy owners get more money? how do you punish them so they stop trying?

Would the owners care if the teams are docked points? No, they’d probably double down on this super league idea to guarantee big income.
The obvious answer is 50+1 rule.
70 Name: Anonymous 2021-04-24 15:25
>>63
I was just going to post this earlier: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2021/04/23/rick-parry-super-league-collapse-means-project-big-picture-should/

"We want to input the best of Big Picture to the Premier League strategic review and we'll import it to the Government's review," Parry said. "It's very simple - we (the EFL) want 25 per cent of the total TV revenue, we want an end to parachute payments, we want a narrowing of the cliff edge between the Championship and the Premier League, because our watchword, our entire focus, is on sustainability."

Parry is a fucking clown.

If wuh fail tuh gan up via playoffs kld shud wipe the slate clean an' replace the majority iv this squad wi' championship level players. it’s the minimum he will hev tuh dee tuh gerrus yeut iv this bullshit. league yen players just can’t cut it fo' wor. the squad needs tuh be telt this befawa the playoffs. the anny chance the' hev iv bein heor next season is tuh git promotion. fail at that an' the' are yeut on their arse.

Based, genuinely a pathetic club. 11 points in the prem, losing 5-1 to Bury in an FA Cup final, biggest loss to a non-league team ever, etc etc

199 Name: Anonymous 2021-04-24 16:57
That was shite 2nd half.
200 Name: Anonymous 2021-04-24 16:58
Wey, that second half wes dire in the least, passin it abyeut forst half the' weor chasin shadows...then wuh once -a-feckin-gain resort tuh just lang nads, the' just grew an' grew in confidence. ha the hell did oniens heador gan in...theor wes nar na class powor ahint it just a gentle need yet burge is nigh on at the edge iv eez box fo' nar na reason at aaal then when wuh someha manage tuh git that third wuh hadd onto it fo' less than 2 minutes, soft free kick but wey tekn by their lad. i honestly canna think iv yen playor that had an off da but the huurl team went tuh hell eftor the break, evarry single yen iv them shud apologise fo' that 2nd half displa imho...from automatic promotion tuh laik offs tuh hopefully still manage enough tuh be involved in the laik offs is neewt short iv a complete disgrace from a squad that gan laik see mich bettor.
201 Name: Anonymous 2021-04-24 16:59

Those playoff teams are grim. Hope Sunderland can pull through.
213 Name: Anonymous 2021-04-24 17:06
Wey done tuh hull an' peterborough, deserved it an' divvint bottle it leek wor. really divvint fancy wor in the laik offs at this rate. nee't tuh sta wi' the square pegs in circle holes an' git a mare settled team as wey. ah gan see wheor bristol city fans got thor nicknyem fo' lj from neeo.

hull was inevitable
Peterborough only managed it because the first manager fell out with team and got sacked
to be fair, he looked permanently depressed there so probably for the better
220 Name: Anonymous 2021-04-24 17:13
Championship should be reformed to stop clubs entering like Hull. Sick of the mentality just get promotion and then be shit Championship club until relegation. If this is magic of the game then games gone.
221 Name: Anonymous 2021-04-24 17:14
Disappointin obviously but does it deed mattor? neet a class deal. been the playoffs fo' a few games neeo an' the'da changed neewt.
222 Name: Anonymous 2021-04-24 17:15

224 Name: Anonymous 2021-04-24 17:17
Absolutely fuckin dreadful. a true laa point in the history iv this club. nar na identity or owt, everythin kick an' rush .... the referee wes bad an' wuh shud hev been playin against 10 men fo' 20 minutes but this bunch iv wasters can’t be defended. pitiful. truly pitiful.
225 Name: Anonymous 2021-04-24 17:18
I’ve put sky sports news on, ah hev absolutely nar na interest in wot Lee hez tuh sa abyeut that.
226 Name: Anonymous 2021-04-24 17:20

227 Name: Anonymous 2021-04-24 17:22
Blackpyeul next up wi' six games withyeut a win.
228 Name: Anonymous 2021-04-24 17:24
This will happen in the laik offs ah bet, the' just disintigrate fo' sum reason, wuh bettor myek a managor change neeo befawa wuh hoy a laik off place awa wuh hev went tuh shite in the last 6 matches, the' switch off an' canna coin it roond, mind the refs are twats also. scowen an' winchestor are neet as canny as embleton an' kimpioka. that defence is appallin. neen league crosses eftor wuh went 2-0.
229 Name: Anonymous 2021-04-24 17:26
Ah don’t think yee will hev tuh wait lang if this carries on intee the laik offs, just be patient.
230 Name: Anonymous 2021-04-24 17:30
Ah await the mike jones apology fo' the decision give against wyke which ended up leadin tuh their second goal.....
231 Name: Anonymous 2021-04-24 17:36
Got tuh hadd yor nerve in a promotion race an' wuh cud neet hev handled it worse tbh. top twa are the most consistent comfortably see fair laik tuh them. fuck thin is that wuh hev absolutely zero momentum ganin intee the laik offs an' yee can’t see wor pullin 3 muckle performances off at the ma. absolutely massive summor wuh hev comin up, if wuh don’t gan up, next season cud be the toughest league yen season yet wi' the likes iv derby, sheff wed potentially comin doon an' aaal.
