article also goes on to explain
In doing so, the state wants to reduce its dependence on proprietary software, and eventually end it altogether. By the end of 2026, Microsoft Office is to be replaced by LibreOffice on all 25,000 computers used by civil servants and employees (including teachers), and the Windows operating system is to be replaced by GNU/Linux.

are german bros secretly based and know whats coming? better to disassociate with gates and microsoft while you have the time?

the department of defense switched to windows 10. they are the experts of operating system security. google the "orange book". they even show it off in "hackers". it's a series of ultimate books on security the DOD puts out.

works, as good as MS office
LibreOffice is inferior to Office 365. It needs java installed ffs to get full function.

It works, and it can do everything your average anon will ever need in an office suit. Granted, M$ office can do more, but the difference is only noticable for power users. Which most of us are not.
So: Go libreoffice.

I haven't used libre office in the last couple years but when I did it was complete trash. My recollection is that it couldn't even open up some common file types and files didn't render the same way if you sent them to someone with office or vice versa

That being said office costs an insane amount so what are you gonna do

Libreoffice is good enough for almost anything, much better than it used to be. That said, the spreadsheet sucks.
