Ignore the mainstream and dig deeper. Streaming services makes this far more easier than it had been in the past.
Personally, I found out that good current metal/rock bands are not anymore from UK/US or Scandinavia, but New Zealand, Mongolia or even more weird in incredible all-female Japanese metal bands. Thanks Covid for luring me into this rabbit-hole.

because music became less about playing instruments and more about a bunch of programmers making some melodic shit for some "personality" to put their opinion into.

Because you're old.

All those famous bands you idolize? All of them were hated by old people too

Why is modern music such a subhuman generic garbage that all sounds the same, with no quality?

Because the majority of modern music consumers / downloaders are 10-25 year olds, and the majority of 10-25 year olds today are suffering from some form of massive global autism brought on by being raised by the internet and phone screens instead of by and with real people in actual social situations. Everything from their knowledge of history to their knowledge of music is directly related to a meme and they have little understanding of genuine, stirring emotion and feeling being that all of their life experiences are Youtube and Instagram based. So they just mumble about Snapchat drama with a vocoder over it.

If you feel marginalized, feel treated like an outcast for the music that you like, know that you would've felt that way regardless of when you were born, most rock bands only became popular a decade after they were released, and even then most people still don't know them, go to anyone you know and ask about The Everlove, All Good Things, Downplay or Bring Me The Horizon, the response is gonna be to blink and ask "who?"
