This analysis is incorrect. In terms of votes -- rather than wildly gerrymandered districts -- Trump and the GOP took a tremendous hit last night. Just look at the actual voting results. It was a blue wave of historical proportions, it just didn't amount to historical results because the game is heavily rigged specifically to prevent that from happening. This isn't a hot take, and it's not even debatable if you know even a sliver about the election map. Trump lost about as hard as it was possible to lose last night, but the only tangible gains for the Dems on a national level was the House.

That won't be the case in 2020. The Senate will actually be in play then.
