1. The point is so you don't savescum during combat. In addition, programming saving during combat is hard, you'd need to write precise coordinates, AI state and animation state of every single enemy and the player.
2. Finding hidden things is called exploration. Pretty much all RPGs do it.
3. Again, not a new mechanic, most RPGs have some kind of paralysis status, even Pokemon does. The trick is to not get hit at all.
