I just wanted to see what games he had.

So today I was sitting on the couch looking though my younger brothers Nintendo switch. I just wanted to see what kind of games he had downloaded, but he got really upset and snatched it from my hands. He then looked at me and said "you loser."

Now I don't really care what somebody says about me. The older you get, the less you care. But it was my younger brother, and the way he said it while looking at me in frustration honestly made me feel bad. And all over a Nintendo Switch of all things, which I paid for and gave to him. He then said, "HOW WOULD YOU LIKE IT IF I WENT THROUGH YOUR THINGS?" I just wanted to see what games he had. It wasn't like I was snooping through his room.

I know I sound like a bitch, but hearing your younger brother call you a loser is soul crushing. Even when I was 13 I never said anything like that to my older sister. Is it because I'm 22 and living with my parents? I'm getting my degree this year, I work, and I do whatever I can to help around the house. I'm doing the best I can in life, but my little brother thinks I'm a loser. What kind of older brother am I? It actually hurts, and I don't know what's wrong with me.

This. Don't worry about it, he just panicked in the moment and got overly defensive most likely. Be confident and sure of yourself anon, you sound like you're doing the best you can.

"... He then said,
"HOW WOULD YOU LIKE IT IF I WENT THROUGH YOUR THINGS?" ..." ;

You only capitalized that because you knew right then:
that it was wrong to invade his privacy and you wouldn't like it if he did the same to you.

A big brother should be big enough to
apologise
when he knows that he is in the wrong.

You know op, I'm 22 aswell, and I'm the true loser, I was a poor dumbass that used aid in college but failed and got it taken away, I took care of my grandmother sure but I lived 4 years in a rural shithole with no car. So now I have no degree 22, my grandmother's dead back at my moms house. I can get my aid back, but it's a pain in the ass at the moment. Also I have a shit GPA and scores in sat and act.

I think it's because he's annoyed by the advice I give him. Even though he's 13, I expect him to help around the house like when I was his age. Just small things like cleaning up after himself and all that, or helping me clean up outside. I do a lot helping my parents take care of the place, and I'd appreciate a hand. But he doesn't help at all. He just sits on the couch watching TV all day.

When he does some stupid shit I call him out and tell him why the shit he did was dumb. The other day he was playing with a boxcutter and he pointed it at me. I told him why he shouldn't be playing with knives, but then he got annoyed about it telling me that I don't know anything about responsibility. I'm just trying to make sure he's not doing dumb shit that'll get him hurt.

But I guess he thinks I'm just an asshole. It's frustrating because he's just 13, and what more should I expect? But I don't want him growing up getting into some stupid shit. Sometimes I feel like I should just stop caring and let him do whatever. If my advice doesn't matter, then why even bother?

that it was wrong to invade his privacy

It's a Nintendo switch. I just wanted to see what cool games he had.

You paid for and gave him the Nintendo Switch? list it on Facebook Marketplace tomorrow, people are paying a lot for them right now. Let him know that you don't want to be a loser so you're selling it to invest in something / pay for school. Actually put that money to good use. If he acts up you can, in fact, beat his ass.

Yeah, before I left for college we had one switch in the household that I was taking with me. I wanted him to have one, so I bought it as a going away gift. I don't know if I want to do that. I don't feel like revenge will ever make me feel better.

You're not a loser, anon. You can still go back and try again. You still have time.

Me and my brother fought a lot growing up and we said terrible things but I never really wanted to hurt my brothers feelings and I don’t think he did ether in the end
