Not same guy, but in theory even if you format a drive (assuming it doesn't overwrite data/you don't do zero passes) you should be able to format it back to whatever kind of FS the drive is in currently and run whatever disk recovery program you need to

i'm not trying to wipe your whole drive, the diskpart clean cmd just removes the partition allocation info, it doesn't actually wipe the drive.
As long you're recovering the data with any program worth its salt you should be able to get the data regardless.
also when in diskpart do the following cmds before you plug the drive in
automount disable
automount scrub

it disables the automounting of new volumes in windows and can be useful if the drive fails to mount and causes the system to lock up or tools to fail.
