My video card is very dated.

So hey /comp/ my video card is very dated, I'm currently running a Sapphire ATI HD 6950 2GB but its like an 8 year old card and struggles to run current games.

I found an MSI Radeon RX 580 DirectX 12 RX 580 ARMOR MK2 8G OC 8GB 256-Bit for $300

Im wanting to upgrade my video card but also dont want to break the bank. I did a little reaserch on it and it seems to get good reviews and seems to be MUCH better then what im running. one of the reviews I read said with it he runs Metro last light on ultra at like 50 FPS. just as a benchmark.

What would you recommend thats reasonably priced for an upgrade. Im looking for a good card for a decent price. Something that will keep me going for a few more years. Example, (not saying I want to but an example) Id like to be able to run say, The Division 2 or Fallout 76 on High/Med that should be able to keep me going for a few years.

I dont care if its Nvidia of ATI, ive always used ATI since the 90s, but im not super picky about it I just want a good card for the money.

compare the cards using online benchmarks and see what you can buy. there is 1 particular site its passmark i think they have user submitted benchmarks and its good to compare old cards vs new using their compare tool.

Thanks! So Looking at that site, it looks like the GeForce GTX 1060 3GB is a better card and cheaper? if im understanding it right?

how future proof will it make ie if anyone knows, like I said I dont have to run things on ultra, as long as it runs games for a while Im okay with lower settings. Hell Ive had to do it gradually the past 8 years. VR capable?

Just get your self this card. If you have an extra 100 or 200 Dosh to spend get a 1070 its little more powerful and Might last you longer in the long run.

Don't get a 3gb 1060, Either 1060 6gb or 580 is what you want.

I can recommend the 1060 6gb OP. It's super reliable and very powerful for it's price

How future proof do you think it would be? im not expecting amazing perfomrance, remember im still running in 720 with an 8 year old card. How long do you think ill be able to run things at least at low >>9

You should be safe for the next 5-6 years
